During Ramzaan, Iftaari is all about pakoras. If it isn’t pakoras, it’s samosas, or bread rolls or… well you get the idea. It has to be something dripping with oil and sinfully scrumptious to make up for the day long fasting.
But this year we decided to make a change. Pakoras were swapped with pasta salads. If at all anything fried managed to make it to our ‘dastarkhwaan’, it had to be air fried not deep fried in oil. The fruit salads that were usually positioned on the edge of the table, and snubbed for the most part, were given a more important position at the center. Ready-made unhealthy drinks were replaced with fresh homemade Iced Tea. All in all, a very healthy iftaari, for the whole of the last week.
So today, it was time to reward ourselves.
And how did we do that? By feasting on pakoras of course!! 😀
The thing is…there’s nothing like abstinence to understand the vice of indulgence. And there is nothing like occasional indulgence, to remind one of the value of abstinence.
PS – The attached picture is not of the actual pakoras. It’s just a random Google image. We wanted to click some of the actual pakoras we made. But when food hits the table, after one has starved for over fifteen hours…well, it is just a very unreasonable expectation to wait and take pictures, isn’t it? 😛
